A two-shilling note of the New York pound, a currency used in the Province of New York. Although the production of paper money had been prohibited by the Currency Act in 1764, partial permission for the issuance of banknotes in New York was granted in the early 1770s together with the repeal of the Townshend Acts. This note was signed by John Cruger Jr., then the speaker of the New York assembly. Banknote: Province of New York, printed by H.
